It is often referred to as the Canadian National Tower, as the Canadian National Railway Association owned the tower. For 34 years, the CN Tower was the tallest in the world before being surpassed in 2009 by the Burj Khalifa and the Canton Television and Tourism Tower. It remains to this day the tallest tower in the Western Hemisphere.
